MONA L05: 5,000 Units Built Before Its 29 October Launch

Two days before its China launch on 29 October, Weibo supply-chain accounts say the MONA L05 has a dedicated new production line at XPeng's Guangzhou plant and about 5,000 units already built, with one commentator expecting the fastest order-lockers to be allocated cars the same night and delivered within days.

Two days before its China launch, the MONA L05 already has a production line to itself — and about 5,000 cars built. That is the claim circulating on Weibo today from supply-chain account 烟隐烟隐, quote-posted and endorsed by 托马斯电火车, and if it holds it says something about how XPeng plans to sell this car: not order now, wait months, but order now, drive it within days.

MONA L05 — "new line's first 5,000 units off the line"

What the post claims

The quoted post is blunt about it: "L05 gets a dedicated new production line, and the first 5,000 units are already built." It says the car occupies its own new line at the Guangzhou plant, that several thousand finished cars are being stockpiled for delivery, and that this matches what the account had previously heard from the supply chain. It also frames the car as a global product: built to global standards for sale in 65 countries and regions, with the dedicated line there to secure supply.

托马斯电火车's own comment pushes the timing further. His expectation — phrased as a possibility, not a promise — is that the owners who lock their orders fastest after the launch event could have a car allocated the same night and delivered within days, which would be about as fast as a Chinese launch gets.

Why the delivery timeline is the story

The L05 launches in China on 29 October, at XPeng's MONA WORLD owner gathering. The car itself is not a surprise any more: XPeng opened pre-sales on 15 October at 169,800 to 191,800 RMB across five trims, and the MIIT filing has been public since August — MONA's first mid-size SUV, 4,870 mm long on a 2,940 mm wheelbase, with a 71.1 kWh LFP battery in the BEV (CLTC range in the 615–660 km band) and a 37.2 kWh pack plus a 1.5-litre, 70 kW range extender in the EREV.

What has not been tested yet is delivery. XPeng's recent launches have been volume events, and the gap between "order books open" and "cars in driveways" is where buyer patience usually goes. Stockpiling thousands of cars before the launch — if that is what is happening — is a deliberate choice to trade working capital for a fast first-week delivery story. It also matters for the export pitch: a car built to a global standard for 65 markets needs a line that can hold that standard, and the claim here is that the L05's line is new and dedicated rather than shared with the L03.

What is not confirmed

Two things, worth separating from the rest:

  • The 5,000 figure and the dedicated line are supply-chain reporting, not an XPeng announcement. The post sources them to 烟隐路边社; the graphic itself is a fan-made banner, not a factory document. Treat the number as a claim until XPeng or a factory-level source confirms it.
  • The "same-night allocation, days-to-delivery" line is 托马斯电火车's expectation, written with 或许 — "may". It is a plausible read of a stockpiled launch, not a delivery commitment.

What to watch on the 29th

  • The official pricing against the 169,800–191,800 RMB pre-sale band, and whether the trims keep the Max / Ultra SE split.
  • Whether XPeng puts a delivery date on the launch stage — a company that has built 5,000 cars ahead of time usually wants to say so.
  • Whether the 5000-unit stock translates into the first batch of customer cars, or into dealer and demo stock.
  • And for anyone outside China: the post's 65 countries and regions framing is the clearest signal yet that the L05 is meant to travel — though this post gives no timeline for any specific market.
